RAE Systems MiniRAE Lite+ Portable VOC Gas Monitor

The RAE Systems MultiRAE Lite with O2, LEL, CO, H2S, and VOC/PID sensors is a portable, pumped multi-gas detector designed to monitor multiple atmospheric hazards with one instrument. Combining oxygen, combustible gas, toxic gas, and volatile organic compound (VOC) detection, the MultiRAE Lite is an excellent solution for industrial safety, confined space entry, environmental monitoring, and hazardous work environments.

This MultiRAE Lite configuration includes five sensors:

  • Oxygen (O2): Monitors oxygen deficiency and oxygen enrichment.

  • Combustible gases (LEL): Detects combustible gas concentrations as a percentage of the lower explosive limit.

  • Carbon monoxide (CO): Monitors exposure to toxic carbon monoxide gas.

  • Hydrogen sulfide (H2S): Detects toxic hydrogen sulfide concentrations.

  • VOC/PID: Uses a photoionization detector to measure volatile organic compounds.

Built-In Pump for Remote Sampling

The pumped MultiRAE Lite features an integrated sampling pump that draws air through compatible tubing and sampling accessories. This allows users to evaluate potentially hazardous atmospheres before entering confined spaces or other areas where direct access may be unsafe. The pump supports sampling through tubing up to approximately 100 feet (30 meters), subject to tubing and sampling conditions.

PID Technology for VOC Detection

The integrated 10.6 eV photoionization detector (PID) measures a broad range of volatile organic compounds. PID technology is commonly used in industrial hygiene, environmental assessments, chemical handling, spill response, and hazardous materials investigations.

The standard VOC PID sensor has a measurement range of 0 to 1,000 ppm. Actual detection capability depends on the compound's ionization potential, the installed lamp, and the instrument's correction factor.

Frequently Asked Questions About the RAE Systems MultiRAE Lite

1. What gases does this MultiRAE Lite monitor detect?

This configuration monitors five gas hazards: oxygen (O2), combustible gases (LEL), carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) using its PID sensor.

2. What is the PID sensor used for?

The photoionization detector (PID) measures many volatile organic compounds in the air. It is useful for applications such as industrial hygiene, environmental monitoring, chemical handling, and hazardous materials investigations. Not all gases and vapors can be detected by a PID; detection depends on the compound's ionization potential and the installed lamp.

3. Does the MultiRAE Lite have a built-in sampling pump?

Yes. This product listing is for the pumped MultiRAE Lite configuration. Its built-in pump draws air through compatible sampling tubing and accessories, allowing users to test an atmosphere remotely before entering an area.

4. How far can the MultiRAE Lite sample through tubing?

The published sampling range is up to approximately 100 feet (30 meters). Actual performance depends on the tubing, filters, sample conditions, and instrument configuration.

5. Does the MultiRAE Lite offer wireless monitoring?

Optional wireless configurations are available. Depending on the installed wireless hardware and compatible system components, instrument readings and alarm conditions can be transmitted for remote monitoring.

6. Can the MultiRAE Lite be used for confined space entry?

Yes. Its pumped sampling capability allows workers to sample an atmosphere before entering a potentially hazardous space. Follow your confined space entry program, applicable regulations, and the instrument manufacturer's instructions. The monitor does not replace required entry procedures or other protective measures.

7. How often should the MultiRAE Lite be bump tested and calibrated?

Follow the manufacturer's instructions, your facility's safety procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements. A bump test verifies that the sensors and alarms respond to test gas; calibration adjusts sensor readings against known gas concentrations. Calibration should also be performed when required by the manufacturer's guidance or after a failed accuracy check.

8. What calibration gas is required for this MultiRAE Lite configuration?

The optional calibration kit listed for this configuration can include a four-gas mixture containing 50% LEL methane, 18% oxygen, 10 ppm H2S, and 50 ppm CO. The PID sensor uses 100 ppm isobutylene. Select the calibration kit option that matches the sensors and maintenance requirements of your instrument.

9. Is the MultiRAE Lite waterproof?

The pumped MultiRAE Lite has an IP65 ingress protection rating. This indicates protection against dust ingress and water jets under specified test conditions; it should not be described as submersible.

10. What is included with the MultiRAE Lite?

The monitor-only configuration includes the instrument with the specified sensors and options, battery, protective boot and filters, charger/PC communication accessories, calibration adapter, alkaline battery adapter, toolkit, quick-start guide, software, and calibration/test certificate. Additional accessories and calibration gas are available through the selectable purchase options. Confirm the exact contents of the option selected before ordering.
